BB Cream: Garnier Skin Renew

I picked up a Garnier BB Cream (in light/medium) from Rite Aid with very low expectations. I don’t usually have luck with drugstore brands when it comes to colored products for the skin like foundation, concealer, powders, etc. I bought it anyway so that I could do a review on it for everything else but the color.

Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream ($12.99) Available in 2 shades.
Skin concerns, such as discoloration, dullness, blotchiness and dryness can come from a number of different sources. It’s hard to find just one product that addresses them all. Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream immediately and effectively fullfills your skincare expectations with just one multi-benefit product that combines intense moisturizing skincare + immediate skin perfecting coverage for skin that looks naturally more even, radiant and smooth.”

My Observations:

I put it on and was surprised at how well the color matched my skin! I literally said “Wow!” The coverage is super sheer, but gave my skin a healthy overall glow. You’ll see below that my freckles actually get “airbrushed” out a little. When I tried to apply a second layer for more coverage… the color seemed to get more pink!! Guess I’ll be using this BB cream very sheer and not be greedy with coverage.

The BB Cream is quite moisturizing which is great, but it doesn’t have a matte or silky finish like some of the other BB creams I’ve reviewed. It leaves your skin feeling dewy so if you have oily skin, you may want to skip your normal moisturizer altogether or just opt for a super light moisturizer under this BB cream.

UVA and UVB Sunscreen
: While Garnier states that this BB Cream has UVB and UVA protection… this is not entirely true in my opinion. Octinoxate is used to protect against UVB rays and titanium dioxide (oxide) is used to protect against UVB and short UVA radiation. Unfortunately, long UVA rays are responsible for sun damage and aging. So, please be sure to apply a separate sun block with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

Sensitive Eyes?: 2 out of 5 times I used this product, I noticed that my eyes got watery and slightly ‘bothered’ for the first 5-10 minutes. Sadly, I think it’s the fragrance. I like the fragrance a lot, but I guess the feelings are not mutual. It’s not bad enough where I would stop using the product… but just thought I’d note. If you have sensitive eyes… you should probably stay away.

Overall Recommendation: Would I recommend? YES!~~ As long as it matches your skin tone, which I don’t see it being a problem since it’s soooo sheer, and you don’t have sensitive eyes. If you’re looking for coverage, you should just use a different BB Cream or a traditional foundation. It comes in 2 shades. I got lighter shade (light/medium) and it’s a good shade for me. Not too gray or pink! Also love the $12.99 price tag.

Looks like drugstore brands are stepping up their game! Found some great drugstore brands within the past month: Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer, Loreal Infallible, and now this great BB Cream!

Have a great weekend everyone!~

Great site! I love how you laid it out, explained your findings, and compared products. First site I’ve found that does this so well. One thing that would be really cool would be to have a page with some kind of table where you checked or rated all the BB creams? Either way, amazing site!

Like Trish said, your explanations were consistent, hit the key points, and were quick! I loved that you included pricing information. I’m kind of a cheap-o. So, I stick with my facial scrub from Target brand (I actually LOVE Target’s Up and Up brands for medical/facial cleaners! They really work amazingly well!), when I remember, my moisturizer with acne fighting stuffs, and.. that is it. So, the idea of my slightly blemished face in certain parts (FOR YEARS! My one cheek is slightly more rosy than the other, and they are both already pretty darn rosy!), looking more clean and.. clear, would be great! I will definitely have to try this BB cream since I am on a cheap-o budget! =P

After reading all of your BB reviews I decided to at least go to my local drugstore and try out the Garnier… and it’s amazing!! I used to moisturize (Dermalogica Active Moist – so not heavy anyway), apply AVEDA dual foundation powder for any spots/blemishes, then put on BareMinerals mineral veil. Now I just use the Garnier BB and sometimes the veil, depending on if I’m going out or trying to impress (I think the Garnier BB leaves a little bit too much of a dewy look for nighttime). While I obviously wasn’t using a ton of products before, it’s nice to consolidate. PLUS, there’s the bonus that it really does improve your skin tone and texture. So, while I won’t be throwing out my AVEDA powder (the stuff is actually pretty amazing for a powder and will definitely come in handy should a ugly blemish appear) I’m grateful for shortening my morning routine… now maybe I’ll actually have time to blow out my bangs! Thanks for the review – I never would have went to a drugstore for makeup before (I’m like you about that), but now I’ll stop by the makeup aisle whenever I need Advil!
