A few days ago, I was playing around with nail polish and created a nail look using geometric shapes and negative space. It’s the latest nail trend and surprisingly easy to create! I used dark blue and gold polish to create the geometric shapes and the pink you see below are my bare nails, hence the negative space!
What do you think of the look below?
After I completed my left hand with triangles, I decided to try rectangles on my right hand. I think it would be cool to mix up the geometric shapes between all the nails. 🙂
One of the best thing about this negative space nail look is that your nails can grow out and it doesn’t look bad because the negative space is basically your bare nails! The pink space you see below is my bare nails with top coat.
Here’s how to create this look.
- Start by creating a small triangle near the tips of your nails. One point of the triangle should be mid way down your nail and the other two points should be each side of the nail near the tip. Think of it as if you were drawing a “v” shape. I chose a dark blue to create my triangles. Don’t worry about making the edges of the triangles perfect. You’ll be able to clean them up when you outline the edges in the next step.
- Outline the “v” portion of the triangle with a thin shimmery gold line or any color of your choice. You’ll get best results if you use a thin nail art brush.
- Finish off with a top coat. My favorite is Seche Vite.
Below is my right hand featuring the rectangles. Honestly, I like the triangles better. Judging from the compliments I received on my left hand… most people preferred the triangles too. 🙂
